The above company had developed an internal project team to look into a new frontier area offshore Africa and wanted to add practical examples to their knowledge of basins and sequences from basin edge to deepwater. Staff and management, a total of 9 from both their engineering E&P and E&P SPES departments came to Wales at the invitation of Geoscience Wales who had developed a 4 day tour across parts of North and Mid Wales.
The tour started with an evening lecture, utilising the Welshpool town hall chamber, followed by a review of exposures across Mid Wales to the coast near Aberystwyth where many clear coastal exposures were reviewed. Finally the group moved south towards Pembrokeshire to view Carboniferous sections and some good examples of pillow lavas.
