The Project

Geoscience Wales recently undertook a lab based reservoir evaluation study for a customer in SE Asia.  A potential carbonate reservoir was evaluated using thin section petrographic analysis of cuttings samples integrated with seismic attributes and wireline logs.  The steps undertaken involved interpretation of the depositional environment and diagenesis of the carbonates and how these impacted on the reservoir properties. One of the prime objectives of the study was to assess the effects of diagenesis and quantify the risks affecting the reservoir properties in the identified exploration area.

Study Outcomes.

Geoscience Wales issued an interpretative report describing depositional facies and diagenesis, integrated with seismic to produce lithological correlations and seismic facies distributions.

Finally

Geoscience Wales made recommendations for any future drilling programs to optimise well design and maximise data collection for the customer.
