Geoscience Wales has been lucky in already securing speakers for the first 4 months of 2018. Look out for details here and on our Facebook group page.
There are a range of events over this winter conference season where the Geoscience Wales Associates are either presenting, exhibiting or attending to meet with customers and potential clients to discuss their wide ranging geoscience capabilities.
They include –

The Geological Society – Cross Border Exploration between UK & Norway – later this month
PESGB – Prospex 2017 – middle of December
Oil & Gas UK – Exploration Conference – February 1st 2018
Geo2018 – Bahrain in early March 2018
Shell (Sarawak) will be using PETROG in their presentation of core at the APGCE core workshop in KL, 20th & 21st November, and Dr. Ricki Walker (Conwy Valley Systems) will be there to support them.

Geoscience Wales are pleased to welcome Dr. Michail V. Shaldybin, who will speak on the West Siberia Basin.
Dr. Shaldybin is Head of lithology sector in The Tomsk Petroleum Institute (JSC TomskNIPIneft), and Associate Professor of Tomsk Polytechnic University. With over 24 years’ experience on the geochemistry and lithology of petroliferous basins, his current research activities include: lithology and forecasting of reservoirs and O&G pools in the West and East Siberia region (cover and basement); secondary processes of oil-saturated reservoirs concern to P&P interaction; facial and sedimentology analysis; lithology and mineralogy of oil-bearing formations; exploration and development of O&G reservoirs.
The talk will be in the usual venue (Royal Cambrian Academy, Conwy), at the usual time (refreshments from 18:00, talk starting at 18:30), only the day is different, as Dr. Shaldybin has to leave before the usual day of Thursday next week.
We apologise for the short notice but visas and travel arrangements have only just been finalised.
As usual, please let us know if you plan to attend, so we may cater accordingly.
On Thursday 21st September at our usual venue in Conwy, Barrie Wells our board member will be giving an update for all of us on developments in this interesting sphere, as it becomes important again after the early hype years ago, followed by the trough of disappointment, now new beginnings.
6 pm for a 6-30 pm prompt start at Royal Cambrian Academy.

John Church, one of our well known Associates will lead a geological trail around the town of Conwy, looking at outcrops and where local quarried rocks have been used in the old and less old buildings of the town.

Plans are afoot to run a field trip next month. We hope to have a Conwy town tour lead by an Associate / eminent member to look at the wide variety of building stones visible in the town, and also to combine this with one or two stops at local hostelries for refreshment. Time date and starting point to be advised soon. Check back here soon for more details.
